Penthouse in Carrer Ample de la Mercè

Description

In 2010 we undertook the rehabilitation project of a penthouse. It was almost in ruins but had a promising potential: splendid views over Palma’s Old Town roofs and a privileged location in the heart of the city. The renowned Ample de la Mercè Street was the scenario for this project that we enjoyed so much.

Spread over two floors, the entrance floor features the lounge, dining room and kitchen area. An open and bright space with high ceilings, exposed beams and four windows overlooking the picturesque street of La Merce. At its highest point (4.5m) two double glazed windows flood the room with natural light. On this same floor, two large bedrooms with en-suite bathroom and open views to the church.

By a modern and functional stainless steel and glass stairway, we access the upper floor where there is another bright and spacious double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and access to the private terrace. All the windows in the house are double glazed with wooden frames varnished in white. The floorings, of hydraulic tiles, have been made using traditional methods by Ca’n Huguet, giving you the feeling of brightness and width.

Location and surroundings

Set within the heart of Palma and close to the Plaza Mayor, the building that houses the penthouse dates from the XX century and its façade offers the colour and structures typical of Mediterranean cities of that era. With the characteristic balconies and shutters of the Balearic Islands.

Because of the fantastic location of the attic, within easy walking distance of the city´s luxury boutiques, restaurants and tapas bars, you will have everything you need at your fingertips. You can stroll to the main shopping streets and the beautiful sights of Palma, such as Plaza Mayor, Ramblas, Paseo del Borne, the Cathedral and Paseo Marítimo. Or, if you prefer, Plaza de España and the Avenidas (Avenues).

But if you just want to leave the city and visit other areas in the island, you have easy and fast access to the main exits of the city.

The distribution of spaces, the heights of its ceilings, the windows and materials used in its refurbishment, offer a wide range of possibilities when it comes to deciding how to decorate the penthouse. Whether you choose modern and functional furniture or you opt for a classic style, the penthouse will welcome your ideas.
